Step Three Construction is proud to partner with the Nirmala Foundation,
a disability inclusion organisation based in Nepal, in association with the UK charity New Futures Nepal, to support a remarkable young woman, Nirmala Bhandari - a female amputee and disability advocate - on her mission to reach Everest Base Camp.
We’re aiming to raise £30,000 to make this happen - and we at Step Three Construction are proud to stand beside her every step of the way.
Nirmala Bhandari – A Story of Strength, Resilience & Inclusion
Nirmala’s story begins in the hills of Nepal, where she grew up in the Hope Centre - home to orphaned children with disabilities. Raised by the Disabled Welfare Association and supported by the UK charity New Futures Nepal, Nirmala has forged an extraordinary path. She’s worked in healthcare, represented Nepal as a para-athlete, and now leads the grassroots Nirmala Foundation, championing inclusion and opportunities for people with disabilities across Nepal.
The Everest Challenge
Nirmala’s goal is to trek to Everest Base Camp alongside the New Futures Nepal trekking team in 2025, celebrating a shared legacy of perseverance in the face of adversity. For most, it’s a 20-day journey. For Nirmala, it will take 35 trekking days to account for the additional terrain challenges as an amputee. This is more than just a personal journey for Nirmala. Her trek to Everest Base Camp is a powerful statement: disability should never mean exclusion.
Where Your Support Goes
Nirmala’s current prosthetic leg is failing. Without an advanced, custom-fitted replacement, this challenge would be out of reach.
Our goal is to raise £30,000 to provide Nirmala with a new prosthetic leg from Ottobock, a leading German prosthetics company. This will not only enable her to attempt the trek but also support her daily life and advocacy work.
The funds will also cover essential costs, including Nirmala’s travel to the UK for fitting and rehabilitation, ensuring she has the best possible support to succeed.
Why Step Three is Supporting Nirmala
Last year, our Director, Charlie, met Nirmala on a trip to Nepal. Inspired by her story, her determination, and her work through the Nirmala Foundation, Charlie knew this was a cause worth championing.
At Step Three, we believe in supporting grassroots efforts that create real, lasting change. That’s why the entire Step Three team is backing this campaign to help Nirmala on her journey to Everest, and to support her foundation’s incredible work in Nepal.
A Joint Effort with New Futures Nepal
For over 20 years, New Futures Nepal has supported children like Nirmala—helping to break down barriers and create brighter futures. Today, they are proud NGO partners of the Nirmala Foundation, backing this campaign alongside Step Three Construction.
This campaign is managed by New Futures Nepal (UK Registered Charity 1142984), long-term partners of the Nirmala Foundation, ensuring funds are handled transparently and tax-efficiently.
Any surplus funds raised beyond the £30,000 target will support the Nirmala Foundation’s work in Nepal, helping others gain access to mobility aids, healthcare, and education.
Together, We Can Help Nirmala Reach Everest
By supporting Nirmala, you’re not just helping one woman climb a mountain. You’re helping to amplify her voice, spread awareness of disability rights in Nepal, and inspire countless others to challenge what’s possible. Let’s help Nirmala make every step matter.
